My approach to furniture design is to first address the proposed function of a piece. In some cases traditional solutions work best but it is always useful to explore and experiment. My design ideas come from a variety of sources, some from nature, some from other furniture styles, art or architecture and some from a strange corner of my imagination.
A successful piece should convey its purpose, encourage its use through eye and hand appeal, perform its function, and be comfortable to use. Wood can have a beauty all its own but a pretty piece of wood is not necessarily a good piece of furniture. I try to use the inherent beauty of the wood to complement the design.
I enjoy the process of collaborating with my clients to create unique solutions to their design challenges. As you explore the gallery you will see examples of furniture pieces I’ve designed and built over the years.
